Ye Ghostly Pirates! Aharrr! I fear I may have been tempted from the path of the Modern Horror Miniature :?
I watched the new Pirates of the Caribbean and had the urge to watch the first one again. Hmmm.... zombies with blackpowder weapons ... interesting.....
Yikes! What was I thinking! Breath slowly and say after me "Dawn of the Dead, Dawn of the Dead". I thought this had passed until I was browsing through Old Glory and found these

The set is 30 undead pirates! My willpower cracked and I have ordered them!
I have also bought several wooden boat models ( you know the ones from the tacky sea-side shops) to be butchered into "Fighting Sail".
Rules-wise I have dug out an old copy of "Pirates" by Flagship Games which has rules for ship combat, skirmishing and fantasy races in 25/28mm!
If anyone's interested , I will post pictures as I go.

Haha me hearty, I bought these after the first film but lost interest and sold them off. They also do a nice pirate ghost ship to match but it is too big for Flagship games.
I have lots of pirate and my wife kindly bought me the 40 gunner a few years ago.
The Old glory broadsword and blunderbuss uses the Q dice system (poorly laid out rules) which was a simple version of gothic horror. Check out Frothers for all things piratical
arrrgh beware the black spot

Oh its all i can do to hold down the impulse. I just got a bunch of Dark-Age minis to paint... but that ship is sweettttttttt

De-lurks...
Funnily enough I thought exactly the same after seeing the second film (much prefer the first one by the way) I stumbled across Irregulars pirate range a short while ago, complete with a few reasonable looking zombie pirates at 70p each...

LTD: I now have SHIP envy! I would LOVE that 40 gunner but my good lady has her limits! A long time ago I picked up a a ship from the old "Village Green" ( now out of production) which is an absolute beauty. I originally did her as a display piece. She's back in the shipyard for some ref-fitting!
I never really liked the "Flagship" models, I thought they looked OK for gaming but I like my minis a bit more realistic........If zombie pirate ships can be realistic?
Eerie: Nice to hear from you! I agree ,the OldGlory stuff is SWEET!
NECRO: Damn you Sir! I will now have to buy those zombie pirates! :D
Thanks for the link! How do they measure up against other minis? Are they 25/28mm scale or "Oversized"?
Auton: They do say great minds... Although it appears LTD thought of it when the first film came out!
I forgot about Irregular minis. Thanks for the link, I can almost here my bank account wimpering!
Well I'm now going to set sail on the good ship "Hacksaw" and set about these wooden display models I've bought!
BTW , LTD if you've got any piratey goodness you no longer want, bare me in mind!

Ages ago Wargames Illustrated published an article & plans on how to build pirate ships in balsa wood & card. The article is now on the Foundry site.
http://www.wargamesfoundry.com/library/pirateship/index.asp
I've built one and it does look impressive, just need to paint it now!
Lowtardog- 09-13-2006
Sorry PM, I am still gaming Pirates but without the Undead :0). I picked up some of the flagship ships when foundry had them 1/2 price yes Foundry selling something cheap!!! I have around 100 pirates but still the european crew to paint up for the Man O War (old glory) I am hoping Artizan/Crusader bring out some nice sailors and Marines/colonials etc for captains
Rules I havent found a really good set that handles ship and shore yet.
OG rules are pretty good for ships but the shore rules are too basic whole flag ship handles rules well the ships are kind of wierd to fit their range.
I use the Flagship models as small cutters and have them swarm the Man o war in games. One day I might get the sloop, space allowing

Thanks for the link Auton, I seem to remember something like this many years ago in Wargames Illustrated. I would love to see how yours turns out!
LTD: it was worth a try
I know what you mean about the Flagship rules being a bit weird. I think it's the "scaling" thing with a representative number of guns/crew to the real counterpart.
Do the OG rules take into account multiple guns like your 40 gunner? My resin ship would be classed as a "Hulk" with the Flagship rules with a massive 4 gun broadside!
I've seen a few things on the net using Mordheim rules for Pirate skirmishing which seem pretty good for " on shore" fighting. I'm sure it wouldn't be too difficult to do some simple Ship Combat rules.

The rules do PM but they only have stats for 10 gun sloop upwards.
The ship rules are good and the boarding actions are OK but the fighting mechanisms and grape can be deadly requiring a big crew, thought 30+ would be fine.

SPLICE THE MAINBRACE YER SCURVY DOGS!!!!
auton- 09-18-2006
I'll try and get the ship painted up in the next few weeks and post pics.
Too many other projects currently being worked on at the moment, civilians, zombies, zombie hunters, pulp, Stargate, Great Escape POWs, warlord era Chinese ....
Oh will the metal mountain ever shrink?!
Pappa Midnight- 09-18-2006
Thanks LTD , I might just buy a set!
Hey Auton, that would be great. Love to see your finished ship!
I know what you mean about a too many projects. I've now got 30 undead pirates primed and based!

I've got some pirates too :)
Ship wise, I made one out of cardboard based roughly on that WI article, and also made a paper one from the worldworks pdf set.
Pappa Midnight- 09-19-2006
Isn't it strange......I mention pirates and people go " I've got some of those!"
FG what's the Worldworks ship like? I've seen the website but you're the first person I know who's got it. It looks pretty big so what are it's potential for gaming?
