WIP Route 66
Hi All I'm getting near the dead line, and HAVOC con awaits. My Zombies are painted, now just to finish the terrain. For the fictional town where my zombie battle will occur is "Two Buttes" New Mexico. So here are the pink foam buttes with the glue drying awaiting finsh carving and painting: Next is the Mother Road, Route 66 I found some black nauga hide, I've painted charcoal gray, then are awaiting next dry brushing to bring it up the the lighter shades of gray. And finally the home of Barney and the Chicken man zombies, "Dino Golf" I was inspired by a really cheap Chinese dinosaur set, with bits of terrain and roughly inspired by the Bent Door building on Route 66 in Texas. So I'm setting up a minature golf course around them. You can see the base, 12x20 with the building. The Terradactyl will be mounted on the side of the building holding a sign. If you look on the base you can see the sketches of the 3 minature golf holes. 1 Through the deformed (piss poor cast ) T-Rex's foot. 2 over the tail of the Brontosaurus 3 throught the weird spikey thing that came with them.

Route 66 continues: Buttes: I have finished shaping them, I added a layer of spackel becaues I didn't like the texture of the pink foam. I had borrowed a nice hot knife tool from a friend, but in the end I found working with a dull buck knife and some very course sand paper served better. I sanded the spackel after it dryed to remove my finger marks and any obvious globs, and then slapped on some glue and threw down some sifted cat litter, this should give me the scale that collects at the bottom of buttes. The Dino Golf is going well, I went slightly mad today and added working glass doors, and cut in all the windows. I'm going to lay down the putt-putt course before the building goes up, also I have to go the hardware store and get some more spackle, I used up my supply on the buttes. Shots of the doors, ignore the purple frames, I used a toy clam shell for the glass and the packing for the frames ( it was a nice plasticized paper, worked great with superglue). The hinges are pins, and I had to cut in a matte board sill into each doorway for the hinges. The front door: The putt-putt door with the serving counter: Finally to keep me inspired, I have -*test*-('") mounted the Terradactyl that will be the sign on the building. Here is the route 66 side view of the building, still needs the fake adobe poles, and details, but its a start! :D Not sure yet what color to paint the building, may just be white, but I'm open to suggestions. I have thought of doing a really cheesy mural on the backside (putt putt side) with a jungle and volcano, not sure if I'll have the time. I also need to add a AC box to the back of the building. The Road not so good. I tried to paint it and screwed up, so I have repaint tomorrow.

Love those Buttes, excellent stuff :D

Dave R- 04-23-2007

Look's Great so far!!! Can't wait to see the finished product. Do you think anyone will be crazy enough to drive golf balls at the head of a zombie??? Or is just me?

GalvanziedYankee- 04-23-2007

The work continues! As for golf, the Lord only knows, I hope for a good gun fight around the dinos! Buttes: I have added my bind coat to them. This is a mix of roughly 75% white glue, 25% pigment (75% Red Oxide + 25% Black) and a dash of dishwasher soap. This is thinned with some water to make the mix a bit runny. This will bond all the cat litter to the surfaces and is will neigh bullet proof. Also provides basic dark color for dry brushing. Tomorrow dry brush and done! :D This is what I'm hoping for: What I got so far... Dino Golf I have the putt-putt course in, the building in place, the A/C unit in, the service window detailed, the sidewalk scored, dinos pinned and ready for installation. The Building in place and drying: The Back 2 of Dino Golf, note the Bronto hump on the 2 hole. My inspiration from Route 1 in Saugus Mass. The horror that is Dino Golf from street level off Route 66  Tomorrow, faux adobe poles, spackling, the big windows, and roof, add the chain link fence around the place. Work on the crap faux jungle plants. The Road no progress, other than repairing my pervious error.>

Excellent looking stuff! It's going to look amazing when you're done. I tend to be a bit lazy when it comes to terrain. I wanted to do a road-side diner so I got this from Walthers: http://www.walthers.com/exec/productinfo/933-2715 It's still in it's box, on standby until I can fit it in to my schedule! Regards PM

Day 4 of Route 66 The Buttes are done, just need to put a seal coat on them :D The real deal Dino Golf The course and building have been spackelled, and the faux adobe poles added, and I started putting in the fence. which is a lot harder than I though it would be. Also I accidentally glued the damn poles to the base! This means I'm stuck with them while I finish building. Crap. I didn't get the the plastic plants yet, so those are slid back a day. OK here is a view of Dino Golf with the surface on it and the fence going up. You can see the faux poles really add a nice touch of cheesyness to the building. I have a new comparison figure, better for these shots, I call him Tiger! Tomorrow, sand the building, add a roof, seal the buttes, paint the plants. Start painting Dino Golf or make another go a the Road? Things to do: Finish Dino Golf Town signs, Route 66 signs, finish the bases for the dinner and the tasty freeze (just side walks) and get on the road!

How weird is that!?? I just got the same mini in the mail from West Wind! I don't think i'll be naming mine Tiger. (You beat me to it.) I really like the way everything is looking. Hope everything goes well. Mini golf, Guns. & Blood!! Does it get any better?

GalvanziedYankee- 04-25-2007

Yeah, I really like the West Wind figs, the Red Necks are in the game, and a couple of the armed survivors. Its a really nice line. The Battle Continues.... Buttes, I hit them with a light dry brush of sandstone, as they appeared a little dark to me, and soaked them down with scenic cement to seal them up. Done and Done :D Dino Golf: Good progress, the building is painted, the roof braces installed and the roof cut, the concrete pad and sidewalks painted, the holes painted, the obsticals painted, the plants first layer of paint done. The Big Bird mounted! :D OK here is the view from Dino Golf's number 2 hole, the center rock is not quite done, need to add a dry brush and glue it in. You can see the finised back side, I need to add a menu board to the service window. You can see the plants, these will fill in the open areas of the course, they need a second coat of paint, and will be glued in. I really want to paint a cheesy mural on the back wall, but I just don't have time... Here is the Front painted with Big Bird attached to the building, I need to make a sign to hang off his claws advertizing "Dino Golf" and a sign over the front door. Need to figure out how to make a ventilator stack to mount to the roof as a lifting point. Going to look at some beads tomorrow, maybe I can find a nice twisty round bead I can mount on a straw and call it vent. We shall see. I wish I had a EM-4 satelite dish, that would work too. Tomorrow, the road, signs, the fence, the plants....

fatgoblin- 04-26-2007

looking fantastic so far! The dino miniature golf is a golden idea!

GalvanziedYankee- 04-26-2007

Crunch time, I have tomorrow morning to be finished  Dino Golf: I made a turbine vent out of scultpy as a roof lifter, it looks very nice. Finished the plants they need to be sealed. The fence is being a pain, I had wanted brass rod to solder, but the hobby shop didnt have any. The plastic is not gluing well. Almost done though. The roof lifter: The town signs, I decided to make the sign a rock and concrete structure that is very common in the US. Made of matte board, kitty litter and white glue. I have a sign to past in once the thing is painted. This is the sign, with the kitty litter glued on: And with a bonding layer of white/sandstone paint and glue when dry I will dry brush native rock color in, and paint in the wooden trim. The highway signs are cut out and ready to mount to the poles as soon as they dry. The road is layed out for lining tomorrow.

GalvanziedYankee- 04-27-2007

Dino Golf is done! I still need the signs for it but my wife is better at that, than I so I will wait. I wanted to have a banner that read "Dino Golf Fun for the Whole Family" and "Visit Barney and his Friends" It a natural home for my Barney Zombie  The fence is done, the plants are done, all its done! (well the mural, and the signs, but the signs are easy. The Signs are done: The Road is lined, I'll put up photos of the whole rig after the weekend.

Malamute- 04-28-2007

can't wqait to see the whole layout!

auton- 04-28-2007

Blimey, somehow I missed this thread. Excellent ideas!

GalvanziedYankee- 04-30-2007

Well the game was a smashing success! :D The 3 teams, (Rednecks, Shirts, and Skins) pressed into town searching for the briefcase (the scenario objective), this finally lead to an excellent mix up in the middle of town, all three sides trying to capture the briefcase. The ensuing gunfight occure in and around Dino Golf, I couldn't be more pleased! :D Sadly I was busy GMing, so I didn't take a lot of pictures, but here are a few shots (my friend was taking photos, so I should have some decent shots later): Lookng West into Twin Buttes from Route 66, somebody needs a hug! You can see the butte off in the backround and Dino Golf to the right. Towards the End game, the three teams (Rednecks, Shirts and Skins) are near the center of town. The Zombie with the breifcase (the scenaio objective) is by the mail box near the corner of the Ramon's building. The Rednecks are in Dino Golf, the shirts are caught in the street between the V8 Cafe and Ramones (having been dry gulched in a gun fight by the Skins) If you look carefully you will see a Shaun of the Dead figure in the bed of the Mack truck, he would later snach victory from the Skins in the end game. The Skins are in Ramons, the street, and at the service window of Dino Golf. The Zombies are all over closeing on the center of town. The top of the Cafe is open showing Velma being consumed by a Zombei (a skin team member) and the Curio shop is open as Zombies consume Arlene (a Redneck). Eventually, Shaun would avenge the Shirts by blowing away a cluster of Skins, that had just grabbed the Briefcase off an unwilling Zombie. He would later be killed, but the Rednecks where in position to grab the Briefcase and fight thier way back to thier truck. The Shirts where in a life or death struggle with the Zombies and the Skins where basically wiped out, so Victory for the Rednecks! Here is a shot of the carage left by Shaun! In the middle of the pile of bodies is the Briefcase! Its hidden by the bases.
