West Wind Civilians......Suitable for conversions?
Hi, Has anyone got any of the civilian range from West Wind? I have been toying with the idea of using them as " Objectives" in a zombie game ( save the innocent!). I can only find the unpainted models on the WestWind website and have no idea of scale or compatability ( are they 28mm or heroic 30mm+ ??) I was also thinking about converting some into zombies. If anyone has seen them or got any could you let me know? They only sell them in sets and i'm loath to spend £10.00 on a set of figures I can't use! Thanks , PM

I just picked up set 3 of these and the figures vary in size upto about 30mm (obviously child ones are shorter...) There are two of the three packs painted at http://oldglory25s.com/store/index.php?cat_id=686&catname='Civilian' Nick

Thanks Nick ( and thanks for the link). How do you rate them? Are they reasonable casts and do you think they may be suitable for conversions ( I'm thinking of expanding my zombie hoards!) Most of my existing minis are Copplestone , EM4 , WestWind "Roadkill" and ColdWar. I don't know what other minis you have but it would nice to know how they compare size wise. I made the mistake of buying some "Fortress" minis a while ago and they are HUGE and just looked plain wrong with my other minis! Regards PM

I have ordered these sight unseen form Leisure games D`oh as they have to order them. Anyway I was looking to use them in games as objectives where police have to protect and herd them also looking to use them as bystanders in other horror games blocking line of sight etc or possibly hidden infected zombies. I only have one super fig, the big guy with the mallet in dungarees and he is big about the same size as Roadkill but that is possibly because he is a super hero :!: some possiblity of converting into zombies from the pictures at Old glory :?:

Hello All, I just received the 3 packs today in the post, As I am working from home..here is a reveiw. The General Fiugres seem to be from a mixture of sculptors, I am assuming this because of the different styles. Size wise they are Road Kill size with the odd exception (I will pick these out as I go). Those that to me could be zombies I will put a Z Pack One Woman in pleated skirt and jacket carrying case - OK, ankles a bit thick Man in leather Bomber jacket, good pose in aggressive stance with arm out-could put weapon in hand Film Camera Man - look great with combat trousers and short jacket, baseball cap and droopy tash - straight out of a Nam film (slightly bigger than other two) Girl with Afro walking pose, again good survivor though the hands would be too fragile to drill and put a weapon in.Z. Camera Man, a bit thin this figure though in proportion, nice pose though Drunk in 3/4 length coat and battered top hat with bottle - beautiful figure, would fit any Victorian/wild west range could be a Z Man with Mobile phone looking at watch, funny stance, legs dont look right Female News reporter, A thin figure though not too bad Kid with football - Naff, enough said Kid with arm raised - basic could be Z Pack TWO Man holding arm out as if hailing a bus, nice pose Teenage girl in gym skirt thingy, thin sculpt Woman with hands up - looks a bit butch could be Z Man with Backpack - heroic stance with hand positions could be armed with pistol or hand weapon Woman with pram - looks a bit of a bloater - head a bit small, pram crude and baby naff Woman in summer dress with hat and handbag - OK Man with hands up could be Z Woman in trouser suit and hair in bun with mobile phone - thin but nice figure Kid on skate board - not a good sculpt Kid with bobble hat and holding bear - think it should be part of woman holding hand - bit monkey like pose Pack Three Jogger with head phne -OK Woman with suitcase - thin but nice figure Fat old bearded bloke with baeball cap hands in pocket - OK Woman in floor length gown, hair tied up, nice sculpt though another thin one - would fit Victorian/wild west or even a Vampire Man walking in suit - very nice sculpt could be a Z Man in suit with brolly and brief case with bowler hat - Dire figure-I will swap head and cut off brolly and case -Z Little girl with Balloon and Ice cream - ok Old woman in long skirt and stick - agian at home in wild west - big old bird Man running in terror - definate panicing survivor, only fault no detail on jacket Man in wheel chair - could have been good "xavier" but the wheels are poorly cast Well that it out of thirty figures I would say 12 are very good (the thinner poses I havent seen before from westwind, these would fit with Hasslefree of which there are 6 though a bit taller) (two points) 9 are OK a bit crude in areas but useful poses (1 point) 9 are crappy though you could do something with them - the kids are dire of which there are 4, wheel chair man could be fixed up with some work but pram, fat old woman and bloke with bowler hat are crap. (0 points) They are a nice rnage but as in pack you get good and bad in each range I will score each pack based on above Pack 1 - 14 points Pack 2 - 10 points Pack 3 - 9 points These are of course my views and prejudices based on my limited painting and modelling skill

Wow! Thanks a lot Lowtardog. You've put a lot of effort into that breakdown of the minis! I especially like the "Z" recommends! So basically 9 of the minis are pretty dire out of a possible 30. ( pitty the bad ones aren't all in one pack!). Would you say overall it was a worthwhile purchase ( taking into account the crappy figures)? As they retail at £1.00 a mini , which is pretty cheap, do the good minis offset the bad ones? ( It works out at about £1.50 a "good" mini even if you throw the bad ones straight in the bin!) Your views are very valid ( painting and modelling skills are irrelevent!) and your breakdown of the figures is 100% more useful than saying " they're ok". Thanks a lot PM

I would say they are worth it though I have them so have to take that view . If you like hasslefree the 6, probably 8 (2 unarmed blokes) oh and women in long dress. I mentioned are beautiful. They are a little bit taller than Hasslefree but the anatomy is very good. Of the rest, the Tramp, Cameraman and guy walking possibly the woman in sun hat and guy with arm out waiting for bus are rather good and the first three look very copplestone in style The others are a mixed bag from poor to average. So yes but I hesitate to recommend without sight unseen Regards Karl

Thanks Karl, I've decided to take the plunge and order some! I'm not normally this cagey about ordering figures but after the "Fortress Miniature" fiasco I'm a little more cautious. I ordered them direct from WestWind. If you're interested , whilst I was talking to the lady at Westwind I enquired about their new releases. I asked when the new RoadKill minis would be released ( there's been a teaser on the site for ages) , she said they were already out! So I picked up a pack of the new " Detectives in Tactical Body Armour" GRK 20. They're still not on the site yet but they have got them in stock! Thanks Again AL ( Pappa Midnight)

Lowtardog- 07-11-2006

Thanks PM, I kept seeing them but there is no greens of teaser page to oggle. I will keep an eye out for them

Pappa Midnight- 07-11-2006

No problem, I'll post some pics when they arrive. Regards PM

Pappa Midnight- 07-14-2006

My Westwind stuff arrived! Hoorah! Karl, you were bang on about the Civilians , a real mixed bag. I've already started sorting them into: a) "To Be Zombified", b)"Objectives", c)"Survivors" d)"To be thrown into the bin" The new detectives from WestWind are up on there site now. I picked them up aswell and they are really quite good! I will be using them as FBI or DEA agents! Regards PM
