Occult Wars Released Just got my .pdf copy of the Occult Wars miniatures game.
First impressions is that there has been a lot of work gone into these rules.
You can play from Human, Vampires, Werewolves ,Demons and Angels. It also has rules for zombies ( controlled and uncontrolled). You can choose what advantages/disadvantages you want for the non-humans to fit with your particular slant on that creature ( i.e; you can have vampires killed by silver as per Blade). There are also vehicle rules.Looks like it's going to be a blast!
The game mechanics are reasonably simple ( relying on D12) and looks pretty straightforward ( which suits me!!).
My only two gripes are :
1) The character creation is random ( you can choose your race but the stats are random). It gives suggested numbers for groups to offset powerful vampires over humans etc, but i can see some problems with balance issues. Maybe I'm wrong but IMHO a points sytem would have been nice.
2) There are no sample scenarios in the book ( easy enough to do but would have been nice).
Like I said these are FIRST IMPRESSIONS . I will have a good look and PLAY over the weekend!

How did it run at Partizan? Did you manage to get a game?
I had a quick skirmish with a few humans V's a Vampire and henchmen.
It ran pretty well BUT the vamp was WAY TOO POWERFUL.
Scratch one gang of humans :(

I didnt get a chance to play the table was swamped which was a good thing and of all things GW kids were fascinated by it and not just by the girls in their knickers.
I probably wont get a game of this for a few weeks (playing Afghanistan, ACW and ECW over next 3 weeks) but will need to print off the rules and have a good study of them. How easy were they to play? am I right in thinking you can leave out or add as much detail as you require or are able to handle?

The rules themselves are pretty straight forward. I had a few issues with weapon usage .There is a Shooting phase and a close combat phase and you can't use the same weapon in both ( you can shoot a pistol in the shooting phase but can use it as an improvised weapon in close combat in the same turn). There was a little bit of rule referral ( as with all new games)but overall plays well.
I think the random character creation caused a few balance problems. Out of a gang of six humans, three of them were drunks ( with a negative modifier to nearly everything they did!!!). In fact they performed so poorly it was a real laugh. They started off really well , downing a Vampire Henchman in the second turn, then just went downhill!!!
The Vamp was a real swine! She walked through a hail of Machine Pistol fire ( combination of poor shooting and the vamp using mana to offset damage ) and made pretty short work of the the remaining humans.
TIP: Read the rules properly! I forgot about "group shooting"-handy for taking out tough beasties!
A real laugh.
I'll run it again and take some pics.
